This article by Vanessa Kerry et al does a lovely job of filling in some level of information on what the current state of global health is within US graduate medical education. The high proportion of residencies (they surveyed all of the larger classes of residency) offering some level of global health experience in a systematic fashion – 20% – is in keeping with AAMC survey data and more focused surveys in the past. The next question, of course, is what is being taught, and how well…questions myself and some colleagues hope to develop a sense of over the coming year.
In other news, I’m pleased to welcome our new Global Health Pathway residents: Mandy Bradke, Shama Cash-Goldwasser, and Jared Eddy. They bring a range of prior global health experiences to the program, and I’m quite excited to work with them in the coming two years. We will be trying to have all five of the GHP residents doing occasional posts to the blog throughout the year, both while abroad and whenever they come across global health topics of interest.
